Elders in Action Participates in Senate Committee on Aging

US Senator Gordon Smith invited Elders in Action to testify at the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

US Senator Gordon Smith invited Elders in Action to testify at the Senate Special Committee on Aging. Elders in Actions Director of Operations Vicki Hersen spoke before the committee on the use of volunteers to educate older adults about scams and fraud. In her testimony, Hersen said that the key to preventing fraud is to "give seniors tools with which they can respond." Elders in Action, a powerful voice for local seniors, trains volunteers to help solve problems. Since their Personal Advocate Services began in 1998, volunteers have assisted 2,460 elderly victims of crime. In the last year Elders in Action volunteers have educated nearly 7,100 seniors about protecting themselves from scams and frauds. Vicki said "such senior to senior prevention education is critical to help seniors become more attentive to their surroundings."
