Our Unique Services Have Reached a Record Number!
Elders in Action serves our community through the power of our volunteers and your donations.
Elders in Action Personal Advocate Services is the only program of its kind in Oregon! Trained volunteers provide free one-on-one assistance for people 60 and older experiencing problems with housing, health care, crime, abuse, or fraud.
- 2,045 individuals were assisted between July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008. This is a 31% increase in request for service compared to Fiscal Year 2006-2007.
- This past year Elders in Action Personal Advocate volunteers recouped $484,672 for seniors due to fraud, wrongful billing and other problems.
- Community Educators participated in 65 Community and Media events, reaching a total of 22,161 people in FY 2008.
- Commission volunteers have provided advice to public officials on all levels and helped shape policies to ensure the quality of life for all ages.
- Elders in Action's Elder Friendly Business Certification program is setting the national standard and precedent for how businesses can best serve older customers. Our program has been replicated in 15 sites in 11 States from Boston to Kansas!
- Elder Friendly Evaluators have certified the 244 local businesses listed in the 2008-2009 Elder Friendly Business Directory. Call us for a copy or download by Clicking Here
- Our senior Tri-Met Ridewise volunteers encouraged 184 of their peers to use the Tri-Met system in FY 2008.
- In December 2007 we began a Community Safety Program in partnership with the Portland Police Bureau and the Office of Neighborhood Involvement. We trained 18 Community Advocate volunteers to work in five neighborhood sites to help local citizens stay safe and get connected to services.
