Advocate and Activist

Elders in Action has volunteering opportunities that run the gambit from office assistance to community activist. One great example of the latter is Steve Weiss who is the embodiment of an informed and effective consumer advocate.
Steve began his involvement with the Elders in Action Commission in 2000 as the representative from the Multnomah County Disability Services Advisory. Since that time, Steve has been actively involved in an incredible collection of local organizations such as Independent Living Resources, Community Alliance of Tenants, Oregon State Council for Retired Citizens, Department of County Human Services Citizen Budget Advisory Committee and others.

Steve has an extraordinary ability to synthesize the complicated changes in legislation and other issues that affect the quality of life of older adults and people with disabilities in our community. He has been a driving force in educating his peers so they may successfully advocate for their rights. Steve has been a leader in many agencies advocating for the rights of tenants and affordable housing. His passion and dedication to inspire others reaches hundreds of people every month. Steve's extensive knowledge helps Elders in Action to be a powerful voice in the community.
