Elder Activists for Social Justice
Community Conversation

Truth and Reconciliation

12:00 to 2 pm EDT      9 to 11 am PDT

In this month’s Elder Activist Social Justice Community Conversation we will begin to study “truth and reconciliation” to better understand how we can begin to resolve the injustices of racism and the treatment of Native peoples in our country.   As individuals and as elders we have the continued opportunity to speak truth and to create healthy relationships for future generations – and hopefully this month’s conversation will enable us to see what is possible and needed.30-bird.jpg

In the words of Justice Murray Sinclair, a Canadian judge, “Reconciliation is about forging and maintaining respectful relationships.”

The resources for this conversation are varied including Winone LaDuke, Native activist, speaking about the process of apology, redemption and healing with a fascinating story of the Pawnees and their sacred food seeds; Heather Plett offering a very personal story about reconciliation; pictures and the story of Veterans seeking forgiveness at Standing Rock; and more.

We will have about an hour for our conversation; and, then about 45 for our EASJ “business” meeting.  You are welcome to join us for any parts of this meeting that are of interest to you.

Joining Our Conversations

Our 2-hour EASJ conversations will be on the 3rd Thursday of each month at 9am PDT / Noon EDT

We will be using Zoom video conferencing, which is very easy to access by computer, or regular telephone. If you choose to use your tablet or smartphone, be sure to download the Zoom app ahead of time. We will be starting each meeting on time so please connect 15 minutes before the call so that the host can help with any technical difficulties or questions you may have. Once the call starts the host will be not be able to help with connection issues.
